Nature Chic, a new approach

Cand vine vorba de moda, ador sa experimentez, sa construiesc tinute inedite, care ma reprezinta, ma camufleaza sau de multe ori ma transpun intr-o atitudine complet diferita. Postarea de astazi are rolul de a prezenta o fateta, pe care o abordez uneori, rareori, cand fac o plimbare in natura. Imi plac drumetiile, atata timp cat le pot controla si cat nu sunt foarte complicate, periculoase sau dure cu incaltarile alese. Acest mini trip  mi-a oferit ocazia perfecta sa creez un outfit folosindu-ma de piesa noua, pe care asteptam cu nerabdare sa o port, insa vremea capricioasa nu mi-a permis. Chiar si acum, am fost nevoita sa o combin cu o piesa "suport" ca sa nu dardai. Este vorba de un trend, resurscitat, care o sa faca furori la Untold, cu siguranta, si anume top-ul lejer cu umerii cazuti. In mintea mea asortam acest top cu o pereche de pantaloni scurti, din denim, cu talie inalta, o jacheta cu aspect de piele intoarsa, cu franjuri, binteinteles si poate o perche de sandale boho chic, insa nu am ajuns inca la temperatura optima pentru a testa noile tendinte, asa ca am construit o tinuta de compromis. Am pastrat ideea de jeansi cu talie inalta, insa am optat pentru versiunea lunga, am ales o jacheta army, deoarece o posibila ploaie mi-ar fi agresat serios jacheta cu franjuri si am inlocuit sandalele cu o pereche de sneakers, deoarece aveam o drumetie in fata, iar sandalele m-ar fi impiedicat sa o duc la bun sfarsit si probabil m-ar fi facut sa arat ca o amatoare nepriceputa in fata celorlaltor exploratori.

When it comes to fashion, I love to experiment, to try on new things, things that fit my personality, things meant for camouflage, but also different outfits, that provide a completely new atitude. Today's post is meant to show you a new "me". I am not the usual outdoorsy person. Don't get me wrong I like nature, and hikes, and outdoors experiences, I just don't know how to cope with the unexpected. Anyway, this mini trip gave me the opportunity to put together an outfit based on my favorite new item, the flared shirt with dropped shoulders. Sadly, I had to wear a tank top to prevent myself from shaking, because guess what, we do not have the appropriate weather yet, to start testing the new spring/summer trends. I meant to mix this lovely blouse with a pair of high waist denim shorts and a cool tassle jacket and obvious a pair of sandals, but instead I had to compromise and go with the long version of the denim pants and an army jacket, cause my tassle jacket is made of some sort of faux suede and it would have reacted badly to rain. Therefore, this is my plan B outdoorsy outfit, what do you think? Do you think that this type of blouse will be the star at the summer music festivals? I am absolutely sure of this!

Floral for spring?

Sunt constienta ca orice articol inflorat este deja considerat cliseu primavara, insa nu m-am putut abtine. De fapt, fusta pe care v-o arat cu atata mandrie este o creatie proprie. In ultimele 6 luni am participat la un curs de croitorie, pe care l-am absolvit la inceputul acestei luni si de care sunt foarte incantata. Imi doresc de cand ma stiu sa pot sa imi pun in practica toate ideile legate de moda si sa reusesc efectiv sa creez ceea ce imi imaginez, asa ca am tot cautat un curs, care sa ma invete sa fac asta. Am pornit cu foarte multe sperante si extrem de mult entuziasm, iar pe parcursul cursului am aflat ca nu este chiar asa usor cum imi doream si cum imi imaginam mereu, insa cred ca sunt pe drumul cel bun si am reusit sa invat lucrurile de baza, iar fusta aceasta este dovada!

I am aware of the fact that floral for spring is a cliche, but I couldn't help it. The skirt, that I proudly present to you, in this post, is actually an original Olguta Jeler design. For the last 6 months I've attended a sewing course, in order to be able to create all those clothes that I've been dreaming of for a lot of time. At the begining of the course I was so excited and so eager to start creating my own outfits from scratch. Altough I learned from experience that sewing is actually pretty hard and demanding, I managed to achieve the basic knowledge and to put together this pleated skirt.

Job outfits, do they have to be boring?

Dupa 1 luna de pauza... revin cu noi idei si inspiratii. Desi nu lipsa de subiecte m-a tinut departe de blog, recunosc ca mi-am ales cu greu tema pentru articolul de "comeback". Oscilam undeva intre pantofii meniti sa fie purtati in acest sezon si un articol inspirat de stilul uneia dintre cele mai elegante femei din lume, Jackie Kennedy, insa am ales sa abordez un alt subiect, ramanand sa revin asupra celorlaltor puncte, zilele viitoare.

Cluj-Napoca, orasul in care m-am nascut si traiesc, a devenit un oras corporate, cu o multime de multinationale si cladiri de birouri fenomenale. Trend-ul in ceea ce priveste job-urile in Cluj e clar office related, si de aici si street style-ul in aceeasi tendinta. Evident ca felul in care te imbraci nu e cel mai important lucru la locul de munca, insa are o mare contributie la definirea ta. Felul in care alegi sa te imbraci la locul de munca, fie ca iti place sau nu, spune foarte multe despre tine. Cel mai bine este sa iti construiesti in asa fel tinutele office, incat sa spuna ceea ce doresti tu, nu sa fi prost interpretata, sau mai trist sa te minimalizeze. 

Nu sunt o fana a tinutelor plictisitoare, monocrome si consider ca acestea sunt menite sa distruga individualitatea. De asemenea nu militez pentru tinute vulgare sau exagerate, insa consider ca si o tinuta office poate sa arate chic si mai ales sa reprezinte orice tip de personalitate. De asemenea nu sunt de parere ca un sacou si o pereche de pantofi cu toc determina stilul standard, pe care trebuie sa-l abordam la job. Exista o gramada de optiuni, combinatii, accesorii si pantofi care arata la fel de profi, insa confera un plus de atitudine si de personalitate. You feel me?

I've been idle for a month, but I haven't run out of ideeas. Although I have numerous cool ideas to share with you, it was pretty hard to pick a "comeback" topic. I wanted to write a piece on this season's shoes and another piece on Jackie Kennedy's amazing style, but I will save these for later and talk about something else, dressing for work. 

Cluj-Napoca, my hometown and the city I currently live in, is a beautiful city that became a corporate city. We have a lot of cool offices and plenty of job opportunities but do we have an appropriate work style? In fact, what is appropriate? Do we have to dress in a sobber manner, in boring colours or unatractive clothes to maintain a professional look?

I honestly think we can dress according to our personality, we can use colour and cool patterns and still look professional, but is this accepted? I hope we can all keep an open mind and develop our office style, because let's face it, we're spending a lot of hours at work, we might be able to look our best and feel amazing. What do you think?

I strongly believe we have to let the "uniform" go. By uniform I mean, those black stiletto shoes and the casual blazer. Of course they are fine, but let's combine them with cool items, cute accessories and let's create outfits that look great, not only work appropriate.

Vetements: 'It's ugly, that's why we like it!'

"It's ugly, that's why we like it" deviza designer-ului, care impreuna cu cativa prieteni a pus bazele proiectului Vetements, ce urma sa devina un brand veritabil. Demna Gvasalia este un designer de origine georgiana, care a detinut pozitii importante la Maison Martin Margiela, Louis Vuitton, iar acum este director de creatie la Balenciaga. 

Vetements este un brand fresh, bazat pe obiecte oversized, inspirat de articole sport, precum tricouri sau hanorace. Chiar daca are un aer trashy, brut, ce nu se incadreaza in tendintele generice, Vetements reuseste sa suprinda si sa castige popularitate. Moda in zilele noastre evolueaza in mai multe directii concomitent, generand piete pentru orice produs si acceptand diverse stiluri. Femeia de astazi nu trebuie sa se ghideze dupa un tipar, nu este nevoita sa accepte un singur gen ca sa se remarce, ci este incurajata sa experimenteze, sa adopte un stil cameleon. Pentru latura mai putin femnina, mai dura, Vetements relanseaza conceptul sport la un nivel excesiv si creeaza un look de zi atipic, menit sa atraga atentia.

Elementele ce stau la baza acestui brand se rezuma la hanorace oversized, tricouri cu print-uri, camasi supradimensionate cu croi neobisnuit, cizme over the knee. Chiar daca toate piesele tind sa fie supradimensionate si un mix ar parea incredibil de excentric, cumva combinatia arata traznet, iar look-ul in sine emana atitudine. Materialele  predominant folosite in creatiile Vetements sunt polyester si nylon, pastrand alura "cool" a creatiilor.

"It's ugly, that's why we like it", said the co-founder of the Vetements project, that became a high end brand. Demna Gvasalia is a designer from Georgia, who worked for Maison Martin Margiela, Louis Vuitton and now he's landed a new amazing job, as a creative director for Balenciaga. 

Vetements is  a fresh brand, based on oversized objects, inspired by sportswear, mainly by T-shirts and hoodies. Even though it seems trashy, unconventional, manly and it doesn't seem to fit the "ordinary" trends, Vetements managed to gain a lot of popularity. Fashion, nowadays, evolves on a lot of different paths, at the same time, constantly creating new markets for new, original products. The modern day woman does not need to pick a "style", she can choose to be any type of woman she wants. She can be a lady today, a goth tomorrow and whatever she likes, just like a fashion cameleon. Fashion encourages us to experiment, to find ourselves and to wear whatever makes us feel comfortable and sexy. 

The main pieces of the Vetements brand are: oversized hoodies, t-shirts with numerous prints, oversized, cropped shirts, over the knee boots. Even though all the items seem to be oversized and the mix seems surreal, the combo is actually dope. The main fabrics are nylon and polyester, keeping the "cool" of the items.

Street style according to Kendall Jenner

Vreau sa incep prin a preciza raspicat ca nu sunt o fana a clanului Kardashian-Jenner, insa trebuie sa recunoastem ca de-a lungul timpului, stilul lor vestimentar a avut o evolutie colosala. Kendall Jenner, la numai 20 de ani a reusit sa bifeze cateva realizari fenomenale. Pe langa faptul ca este una dintre cele mai cautate modele la ora actuala, una dintre muzele lui Olivier Roustening, are si un street style ireprosabil, demn de studiat. Admirandu-i stilul vestimentar, printre colectiile de poze Vogue si Glamour am decis sa recreez unele dintre cele mai reusite tinute ale acesteia pentru sezonul ce urmeaza. Astfel, putem imprumuta cateva dintre combinatiile ei de succes, la preturi muuult mai accesibile. Tinutele ei sunt degajate, lejere si foarte bine legate, perfecte pentru primavara si extrem de comode!

I am not a fan of the Kardashian-Jenner clan, but I have to admit their fashion sense has evolved amazingly. Kendall Jenner, aged 20, managed to become one of the most wanted models, a muse for Olivier Roustening and has an amazing street style. While admiring her outfits on the Vogue and Glamour archives I thought about sharing some of them with you, and also suggest some more affordable items, inspired by her street style.

Primul exemplu de street style imaculat, compus dintr-o maleta intr-o nuanta mustar si pantaloni cu talie inalta. Ochelarii ii dau un aer foarte classy, iar accesoriile completeaza perfect tinuta. Am reconstituit aest outfit de succes folosind articole exclusiv H&M.

The first example of a perfect street syle outfit, made of a turtleneck shirt, a pair of white high waisted jeans, cool glasses for a chic touch and perfectly matched accessories. I managed to rebuild the outfit, using H&M items.

Study Case no. 2

Pantalonii culottes sunt foarte in tendinte acum si pe buna dreptate, sunt foarte lejeri si foarte chic in acelasi timp. Combinatia de alb si roz discret este impecabila si denota naturalete. Acest outfit este dovada ca si piese precum pantalonii culottes se combina exceptional cu o pereche de tenisi.

A proof of efortless fashion, that looks amazing. The powder pink/white combo is simply perfect and the accesories manage to create an outstanding street style outfit, meant to set you appart.

Study Case no. 3

Ultima tinuta studiata si reconstruita este una all black, executata perfect. Bluza cu maneci evazate este foarte cool, in special in combinatia cu pantalonii mulati si pantofii din piele lacuita. Per ansamblu confera un aspect degajat, insa foarte bine planificat. Alegerea accesoriilor este una oportuna, ochelarii de soare si gentuta neagra, completeaza look-ul misterios si pastreaza linia simpla  si clara a outfit-ului.

The last "studied" outfit is made up of all black items. I find this outfit cool and the combo of the flared sleeve shirt with the fitted black pants and the  leather shoes, brilliant. I also admired the fact that she kept it simple and sleek, keeping only 2 accessories, the tiny black bag and the cool sunglasses. Thumbs up!

Is it spring yet?

Pana ne decidem daca vine sau nu primavara, trebuie sa fim mereu pregatite pentru orice posibila schimbare, pe parcursul zilei. Asa ca pana nu e clar, am hotarat sa compun tinute neutre, ce se pot adapta cu usurinta la o scadere brusca a temperaturii sau la o bine meritata zi cu soare. Tot in aceeasi linie, neutra am ales si culorile. Inceputul de primavara este mereu modest, discret, putin soare, o aparitie timida si treptata a verdetii, asa ca nuantele de gri se potrivesc perfect cu acest moment de 'tranzitie'. Am ales sa 'asezonez' tinuta cu noile mele achizitii, de care sunt foarte incantata. Noua mea gentuta este perfecta pentru o tinuta casual, si am avut norocul sa dau peste o oferta foarte buna, in stilul doua la pret de una, asa ca m-am ales cu doua noi IT bags. Gentutele Venti Concept Store sunt disponibile intr-o gama vasta de culori, care mai de care mai delicioasa. Am optat cu greu pentru nuanta cool de gri si pentru o nuanta superba de navy blue. 

A doua achizitie: pantofii smart casual in aceeasi nuanta de gri, i-am gasit la super promotia de la Stonecreek. Pe langa faptul ca sunt foarte comozi, au si o talpa foarte chic si sunt usor de asortat la o gramada de tinute. Abia astept sa vad cum se potrivesc cu pantalonii cullottes si cu fustele creion. Dupa cum observati am ales sa pastrez jacheta vintage si jeansii de la tinuta anterioara, tocmai pentru a demonstra versatilitatea acestora. Imi place foarte mult 'trench-ul' de piele si am doar o perioada limitata pe an, cand il pot purta. Incerc sa-l protejez, impotriva precipitatiilor de orice tip, iar o data ce se instaureaza primavara propriu zisa, trec la jachete mai subtiri. Asa ca, profit acum si creez tinute in jurul sau!

Until we can decide whether the spring is coming or not, we have to be prepared for any type of weather scenario. So, until it is clearly spring I've decided to create outfits that can easily adapt to any possible change, whether the temperature drops or the sun decides to stick around and give us a spring well deserved preview. I also chose neutral colours, for this transition period. I'm keeping my rose quartz and serenity blue items for the real spring, and bring out my neutrals for this period. How do you like my new entries? I just bought two for one Venti Concept Store bags, that I totally fell in love with. They are tiny and cute, and gave me a hard time decididing which colours to pick. I went for this cool grey and for the navy blue. 

Second new item: smart casual shoes, in a gorgeous shade of gray. I found them at Stonecreek, and besides the fact that they are amazingly comfortable, they have a cool platform, they also extremely easy to wear. I can play mix & match, and can't wait to wear them with cullottes pants and pencil skirts. I keep wearing my leather coat, because I only have a couple of weeks left, cause spring will soon kick in and bring a beautiful weather and sunny days, and I will have to switch to other jackets.

Evening at the Opera: "La Traviata"

Vineri seara, Teatrul National Cluj-Napoca, punerea impecabila in scena a faimoasei opere La Traviata. 

Opera de Giuseppe Verdi se desfasoara pe trei acte, iar daca nu ati vazut-o inca, nu ezitati cu urmatoarea ocazie. Poate va amintiti de Julia Roberts in superba comedie romantica "Pretty Woman", ramanand profund impresionata de capodopera lui Verdi. Garantez ca veti avea acelasi sentiment de apreciere si veti ramane la fel de adanc impresionati de grandiosul spectacol.

Traviata este un omagiu adus romanului Dama cu Camelii de Alexandre Dumas (fiul), inspirat de Rose Alphonsine Plessis. Aceasta paraseste orasul natal, Nonant, la numai 13 ani si ajunge la Paris, unde presata de lipsa banilor recurge la prostitutie. La doar 18 ani Rose Alphonsine este una dintre cele mai cunoscute curtezane, insa intalnindu-l pe tanarul Alexandre Dumas, se indragosteste iremediabil si abandoneaza vechiul stil de viata pentru a-i fi alaturi. Tragic, povestea lor de dragoste se sfarseste o data cu prematura moarte a curtezanei, la varsta de 22 ani, din cauza tuberculozei. Denumirea romanului vine de la florile preferate ale acesteia. 

Capodopera lui Verdi preia personajul din roman, insa o reconstruieste sub numele Violetta Valery. Prima punere in scena a operei are loc in 1853, la Venetia, la Teatrul La Fenice, insa esueaza colosal, din cauza interpretarii superficiale. A doua reprezentatie, care se desfasoara la Teatrul San Benedetto, Venetia reuseste sa ridice spectacolul la nivelul de succes bine meritat, de care se bucura si astazi.

Friday evening, at the Cluj-Napoca National Theatre, the outstanding staging of the Traviata Opera by Giuseppe Verdi. The masterpiece is based on three acts, and if you haven't seen it yet, make sure you do, with the first occasion. Remember how impressed was Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman, when Richard Gere flew her off to Italy, only to take her to see Traviata? I promise you, that you'll be as impressed, you will get all the feelings. 

Traviata is based on Alexandre Dumas's novel The Lady of the Camellias. His novel is about the life of Rose Alphonsine Plessis, and their unfulfilled love. Rose Alphonsine leaves her hometown at the age of 13 for Paris, but her lack of money pushes her into becoming a prostitute. By the age of 18, she becomes one of the most famous and desired courtesans. Also around that age, she meets Alexandre and they fall in love. Unfortunately their love is ended by her tragic death of tuberculosis. The title of the novel is inspired by her favorite flowers. 

Verdi's masterpiece recreates Rose's character and gives her a new name, Violetta Valery. The first staging was held at the La Fenice Theatre in Venice, and because of the lack of the proper acting skills it was a complete failure. However, the second staging, also in Venice, managed to do justice to the masterpiece and provide it the well deserved success.
